Our experienced San Antonio OBGYNs provide a wealth of gynecology services

At Women’s Health Institute, we believe that you deserve compassionate and comprehensive gynecology care in a comfortable environment. We see every woman as unique and deserving of respect. All our San Antonio OBGYNs have special expertise in evaluating and treating a wide range of gynecological conditions. We invite you to partner with our practice for your healthcare needs throughout your lifetime.

Our team diagnoses and monitors women’s health issues

There are several gynecology issues that our doctors might diagnose using a physical exam, your health history, a Pap smear or other test results.

A Pap smear takes a sample of the cells of the cervix. The test detects changes in the cervix that may indicate an elevated risk for cancer. In women who have regular Pap tests, abnormal changes are almost always caught early. Your San Antonio OBGYN will discuss the results and treatment options, partnering with you to develop a care plan.

In addition to regular Pap tests, you should schedule a visit us if you are experiencing symptoms or suspect that you may have a woman’s health issue that needs treatment.

Treatment for many women’s health issues

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

This hormonal disorder can cause irregular periods, acne, infertility, obesity, or excess hair on the face and body. Your OBGYN will conduct a thorough exam that may include lab work, an ultrasound exam, and health history . PCOS is a chronic condition that you can manage with medication and lifestyle changes.

Endometriosis

Endometrial tissue, or the tissue that makes up the lining of the uterus, can sometimes grow in other areas of the pelvis. This tissue responds to normal hormonal changes and bleeds, just like the lining of the uterus. Problems occur when shed endometrial tissue has no way to exit the body. Endometriosis can cause adhesions, chronic pelvic pain, painful periods or infertility. Symptoms of endometriosis range from very mild to very severe, and treatment options include medication, surgery, and dietary changes.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

When bacteria make their way from the vagina or anus into the upper or lower urinary tract, infection can occur. Women with a UTI can experience burning with urination, urinary frequency and urgency, pain in the lower abdomen, and blood in the urine. We generally treat UTIs with a short course of oral antibiotics.

Urinary incontinence

Mild urine leakage is common among women. However, for some, it can interfere with quality of life. To determine the cause, your physician will conduct a thorough physical exam and order tests.

Menopause Management

As we go through the stages of life, our gynecology needs change. For women approaching menopause, we offer comprehensive and compassionate care. One of menopausal women’s biggest complaints is the frequency and intensity of hot flashes. Your OBGYN will share all the latest menopause management strategies, including both hormonal and non-hormonal replacement treatments (HRT), osteoporosis management and bone density scans.

Gynecology care involves help with family building

Preconception Planning

A gynecology care consultation with your San Antonio OBGYN can help women planning to conceive in 6-12 months. Your doctor will review your health history, recommend vitamin supplements, discuss over the counter medications and evaluate your need for testing prior to pregnancy.

Fertility Treatment

For some, pregnancy occurs easily. However, for others, conception will present a few more challenges. We partner with patients to effectively diagnose and treat fertility issues.

  • After 6 to 12 months of trying to get pregnant without success, your doctor might recommend comprehensive fertility testing to determine fertility issues that might interfere with conception.
  • There are a wide range of fertility treatments and recommendations that your OBGYN can offer, depending on the results of your testing.

Because a strong lifelong relationship with a Women’s Health Institute OBGYN is essential for women’s healthcare, it’s important to choose a provider you trust. Please contact our San Antonio OBGYN practice to schedule a gynecology appointment. We will begin a partnership built on a foundation of professionalism, experience and compassion as we care for your gynecologic healthcare needs.
